Put a Lid on DC
The District of Columbia, our nation's capital, also has a hockey team by the same name. The Washington Capitals, members of the Metropolitan Conference, are in second place behind the Pittsburgh Penguins. Actually, they trail the Penguins by 17 points, so it is not even close. Losses are never good, but a loss tomorrow night at Washington won't make or break the Penguins. Here are the best teams in the NHL:
#1 Anaheim Ducks (35-8-5): 75 points
#2 Chicago Blackhawks (30-8-10): 70 points
#3 Pittsburgh Penguins (33-12-2): 68 points
#4 Boston Bruins (29-14-2): 60 points
By best team, I mean based on total points and NHL record. Let's get back to the Penguins' next opponent, the Capitals. While the Capitals pose no threat to take the lead in the Metro, Alex Ovechkin is always a force to be reckoned with as he leads the Capitals with 32 goals. On the other hand, Sidney Crosby, with 25 goals, is always a force. Sid "The Kid" is arguably the best player in the NHL. The Capitals are 2-1-2 in their last 5 games, while the Penguins are 4-1 in their last five games. These two teams have only met once this year. Back on November 20, the Penguins blanked the Capitals 4-0. Tomorrow night, the Penguins will, once again, "put a lid on DC." This ain't no rivalry anymore. Prediction: Penguins double up the Caps and win 4-2. This game can be seen tomorrow night on NBC Sports.
