Home Opener: Devils at Penguins (Game 1)

The Penguins will open their season at home on Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils.  Last year, the Devils were “kryptonite” for the Penguins defeating them 3 out of 4 times.

These games seemed to expose that whenever the Devils score three goals, the Penguins lose.  The Penguins now have three goaltenders: Marc-Andre Fleury, Tomas Vokoun, and, the newly acquired, Jeff Zatkoff.  In actuality, the Penguins actually have two healthy goalies. Tomas Vokoun had surgery to remove a blood clot from his hip.  Due to this, Vokoun has been placed on injured reserve (IR).  Kris Letang has also been placed on injured reserved (IR) due to a knee injury.

The Devils will have Martin Brodeur in goal along with, the newly acquired, Cory Schneider from the Vancouver Canucks.  Johan Hedberg, who defeated the Penguins twice last year, was traded to the New York Rangers.  Other notables are, former Penguin, Jaromir Jagr.

This, again, will be a close game.  Fleury and the 41 year old Brodeur are set to start the games.  Penguins win 4-2.
